Mt. Clemens is our corner. In this small, urban city there are over 17,360 people. Some of them are doing well. Many are struggling. According to statistics, over thirteen percent of America is living in poverty. In Mt. Clemens this is closer to thirty percent.
Drug use in America is around 9%. If you applied that to Mt. Clemens that means 1,563 people are struggling with drugs. Thirteen percent are alcoholics. That's 2,257 people.
Over 3,000 of these are under 18 years old. Statistics tell us that over 30 percent of eighth graders are illicit drug users. 30 Percent. That's where the future of Mt. Clemens will be won or lost.
Many times children feel the full force of poverty and abuse. Unless someone steps up, stands in the gap, working with schools and community leaders, these kids will succumb to many of these same issues affecting their parents and caregivers.
We want to do something about it.
We want to take over a city. Share Christ. Help those who are struggling. Change lives. To do this, we need some help. Although it's only 4.2 square miles, we are starting from scratch, working with the city, schools and the community takes time, and moving into new facilities and telling people about it costs money. And lots of...enormous amounts of prayer.
Maybe you are in a place where you can give $20,000. Maybe you can give $50. Maybe just prayer. Here's how we see it. If we can raise $5 per person, or five minutes of prayer for each person in this community, this community can be radically transformed.
Neighborhoods would be reinvigorated. Families would be brought together. Lives would be changed.
But we need your help. Please click on the Giving button to donate and commit to praying for the community of Mt Clemens for 5 minutes a day. And then, watch what God will do!
